REVIEW

This is located in uncontrolled airpsace; however the Canadian border is located to the west, so be aware of where you are flying.

DESCRIPTION

As of my last update in October 2023, there is no well-known park named "Caperton Trail Park" in New York. It's possible that it could be a local or smaller park not widely recognized, or perhaps a relatively new addition that hasn't gained significant notoriety yet. Given the absence of specific information about this park, I'll provide some general guidelines that could be useful for flying a drone in New York parks.

General Guidelines for Flying Drones in New York:
1. Legal Regulations:
- In New York City (NYC), the laws are quite restrictive. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is largely prohibited in most public parks unless you have special permission.
- For the rest of New York State, you need to adhere to both federal regulations set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and state or local regulations.
2. FAA Regulations:
- Registration: If your drone weighs more than 0.55 lbs (250 grams), it needs to be registered with the FAA.
- Altitude: You should not fly higher than 400 feet above ground level.
- Line of Sight: Always keep your drone within visual line of sight.
- Airspace: Be aware of restricted airspace. For flying in controlled airspace (like near airports), you will need LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) authorization.
3. LANCE Authorization:
- If Caperton Trail Park is located in controlled airspace, you will need LAANC authorization for any UAV flights. You can typically apply for this via various FAA-approved applications or services.
4. Local Ordinances:
- Always check local-specific regulations before flying. This can sometimes involve visiting the local municipality's website or contacting them directly.
5. Respect Private Property and Privacy:
- Ensure you are not flying over private property without permission and avoid areas where people might expect privacy.
6. Other Considerations:
- Wildlife and Nature: Avoid disturbing wildlife and adhere to any specific park rules regarding UAVs. Some natural reserves and parks may have additional restrictions to protect wildlife.
- Crowds: Avoid flying over people or large gatherings for safety reasons.

Recommendations:
- Do Your Research: Use online resources, contact local authorities, or consult map resources to verify if drones are allowed in Caperton Trail Park and whether it's worthwhile visually.
- Join a Community: Local drone-flying clubs or online forums can often provide valuable, location-specific advice and tips.
It's essential to follow all guidelines and rules to ensure a safe and fun experience for both yourself and the people around you. If you find that Caperton Trail Park is restrictive, there may be other drone-friendly parks and open spaces where you could have a better experience.
