REVIEW

Note: Mod is unsure of the exact trail outline.

"Tower Bridge is located in central London within the EGR160 specified area and next to the EGR158 City of London restricted area. As the EGR158 area covers Tower Bridge and the area to the west of the bridge, flying a drone to the east of the bridge is possible as long as you remain clear of the restricted area. You will be able to get some stunning drone photos from the east side of Tower Bridge. Should you wish to fly over the bridge or within the restricted area to the west, you will need to request permission to do so from NATS. Approval of your flight request can take up to 28 days so plan ahead for this one. Their website is here: https://nsf.nats.aero/drones-and-model-aircraft/"

DESCRIPTION

Tower Bridge is one of London's most iconic landmarks, featuring a stunning combination of bascule and suspension bridge designs. Completed in 1894, it spans the River Thames and is known for its two majestic towers, blue and white color scheme, and its ability to lift its roadway to allow ships to pass through. The bridge offers panoramic views of the city and houses a museum where visitors can learn about its history.

Is it worth flying a drone there?
While capturing aerial footage of Tower Bridge with a drone sounds appealing, doing so comes with challenges and legal considerations.

Am I legally allowed to fly a drone there?
Flying a drone in central London is highly restricted, including around Tower Bridge. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulates drone flights in the UK, and the airspace around Tower Bridge falls within a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) due to its proximity to densely populated areas, London Heliport, and other critical infrastructure.

Do I need LANCE authorization?
In the UK, LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) is not used; instead, permissions are required from relevant authorities. You would need specific authorization from the CAA, along with permission from local authorities and potentially the Metropolitan Police, to fly a drone in this area.

Anything else I need to know?
- Regulations: You must adhere to the UK's CAA regulations for drone flying. This includes holding a Flyer ID and an Operator ID if your drone weighs between 250g and 20kg.
- No-Fly Zones: Always check current no-fly zones or FRZs via the NATS (National Air Traffic Services) Drone Assist app or other official resources.
- Insurance: Having public liability insurance for your drone operations is highly recommended and often required for gaining permission.
- Respect Privacy: Be mindful of privacy laws and avoid flying over private property without consent.
Given these restrictions, it’s often more practical to enjoy Tower Bridge from the ground or use permitted and legal aerial footage obtained by licensed professionals.
